They work well for users at low to moderate risk who want a maintenance-free solution.

Memory foam cushions use temperature-sensitive viscoelastic foam that molds to the user’s body shape over time. They excel at distributing pressure across a larger surface area and are ideal for users who maintain a consistent seated position.

Air cell cushions use individually inflatable cells that can be adjusted with the included hand pump. They provide the deepest immersion and the highest level of pressure redistribution, making them the appropriate choice for users at high risk for pressure injuries or those who sit for extended periods beyond 8 hours daily.

Measure the interior width between the armrest mounting points of your wheelchair frame — this is your seat width. Then measure from the backrest to the front edge of the seat rail — this is your seat depth. The cushion should match or be slightly smaller than both dimensions to avoid interference with the wheel locks, armrests, or footrest hanger.

Everestway cushions are available in standard sizes: 16″ x 16″, 18″ x 16″, 18″ x 18″, 20″ x 18″, and 22″ x 18″. If you fall between sizes, select the next size down and check that there is approximately 1″ clearance on each side between the cushion and the armrest. Cushion lifespan depends on the type of cushion, hours of daily use, and the user’s weight. As a general guideline, we suggest inspecting your Everestwa cushion regularly and replacing it when you notice a significant change in support. Signs that a cushion needs replacing include visible compression set in foam (the foam no longer springs back), gel migration to the edges, or air cells that no longer hold inflation.

For users who sit more than 8 hours daily, more frequent assessment is advisable. Our modular design means you can often extend cushion life by replacing individual components — such as the cover or a gel insert — rather than the entire cushion, through our genuine Everestwa replacement parts line.

Yes. All Everestway seat cushions are compatible with tilt-in-space and recline power wheelchair systems. The non-slip base on each cushion prevents shifting during tilt operations. For air cell cushions used with tilt-in-space, we suggest checking inflation pressure after tilting back to the upright position, as gravity can slightly redistribute air volume. A quick adjustment with the hand pump restores optimal pressure distribution in seconds.

All Everestway cushion covers are removable and machine washable. Unzip the cover, remove the inner cushion core, and wash the cover on a gentle cycle with mild detergent. Air dry or tumble dry on low heat. Do not bleach. We suggest washing the cover at least every two weeks for daily users, or more frequently if exposed to moisture or perspiration.

The inner cushion core should be wiped down with a damp cloth and mild soap as needed. Do not submerge foam cores in water. For gel and air cell models, wipe the surface clean and inspect for any damage or leaks. We designed the Everestway product line with cross-compatibility in mind. Covers within the same size category fit across all Everestwa cushion models of that size — so an 18″ x 16″ cover works on gel, foam, and air cell cores in the same dimensions. Foam inserts and gel pads are model-specific due to differences in contour geometry. When ordering replacement parts, check the model number printed on the label inside your current cushion cover to ensure you receive the correct component. Standard Everestway cushions are rated for users up to 300 lbs. Our heavy-duty models accommodate users up to 500 lbs using reinforced foam cores with higher ILD (Indentation Load Deflection) ratings and wider gel chambers that prevent bottoming out under increased load. Weight capacity is listed on every product page on Amazon, and selecting a cushion rated for your body weight is essential for proper pressure redistribution performance. Using a cushion below its intended weight threshold will not provide the engineered pressure relief and may accelerate material fatigue.
